Mr. Tom Davis was interviewed by a reporter with BBC Radio about the Scopes Trial, William Jennings Bryan and Bryan College. The interview is to be broadcast in January as part of the BBC’s coverage of the Charles Darwin bicentennial.

Mr. Bill Harle reports that student Stephen Hill had his paper, “Better Readers, Not Better Translations: Applying Writing Center Theory and Pedagogy to Ancient Language Tutoring” accepted by the Southeastern Writing Center Association for presentation at their annual conference on February 26-28. This is very exciting news for Stephen, as he is the first Writing Center consultant to submit and present current research on Writing Center practice. The significance of Stephen’s research/work offers numerous interdisciplinary opportunities in Writing Center practice and ancient language pedagogy.
In addition, Mr. Harle had his paper, “Sharpening The Whale Bone of Change: Transforming Traditional Intellectualism Through Organic Writing Center Practice” accepted for the same conference.

Mrs. Kim Keck successfully defended her dissertation proposal at Boston University on Monday, December
8, 2008. The title of her research is “Secondary Music Teacher Preparation on the Changing Adolescent Male Voice: An Examination of Methods and Materials in the Vocal Track Music Education Degree Program in Seven Tennessee State Universities.”

Dr. Doug Kennard received his third published professional review of his book Messiah Jesus: Christology in His Day and Ours (2008) in New Testament Abstracts 52:3 (2008): 613 including, “Kennard argues Jesus is a complex Messiah in a Second Temple context, and examines how Jesus became realized as God revealing himself and how this full realization of who Jesus is became the biblical gospel.”

Dr. Jeff Myers had/has the following schedule:
January 9 – K-Life Annual Staff Retreat in Branson, MO;
January 28 – Young Emerging Leader’s Retreat with Rowan Gilson, Minneapolis, MN;
January 29-30 – ACSI Administrator Conference, Minneapolis, MN; and
January 31 – Educational Policy Conference for the Constitutional Coalition, St. Louis, MO.

Mrs. Tami Tullberg attended the TACS (Tennessee Association of College Stores) annual meeting this year in Chattanooga. She was asked to serve another year on the board. Tami was also able to get her first book published in August. The title is “And Baby Makes Three . . . and Four . . . and Five . . . and Six.” This book is geared to young mothers.

Dr. Ken Turner will read a commissioned paper entitled “The Kind-ness of the Lord” at the Genesis Kinds conference February 4-5, 2009, Hertfordshire, England.

Dr. Mel Wilhoit directed the Bryan Brass Chorale and the Flute Ensemble in a program at the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga to open its Christmas season on November 20. The next evening, he sang with the Chattanooga
Opera Chorus in a performance of Pucinni’s opera “Turandot.” On December 6, as President of the Rhea Arts Council, he presented awards for the Juried Art Exhibit held at ArtsCrafters in Dayton. On December 6 and 7 he played trumpet in the Symphony of Praise Orchestra at the Christmas concerts at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga.
