July 01, 2008Dr. Jeff Bruehl was involved in the “Economic Mini-Summit for Women” held on May 14, 2008, on the Bryan College campus. Dr. Bruehl was a presenter in a session entitled, “Entrepreneurship Do’s and Don’ts.
Mr. Taylor Hasty has been named head baseball coach to replace Joel Johnson who recently resigned.
Dr. Ray Legg gave the commencement address on May 19 for the class of 2008 at Faith Christian Academy in Athens, AL. In June, Dr. Legg published a web article about his trip to Rwanda for the Moody Bible Institute Alumni Association. June also provided Dr. Legg, along with Tony McCuiston, with the opportunity to reprise parts of their roles as William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow for a production on the Scopes Trial recorded by British film makers Pioneer Productions from London, England.
Dr. Doug Kennard published an article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press June 22, 2008 Perspective section defending that “Evangelicalism is Healthy but Diverse.” Dr. Kennard also reports that graduating senior in Biblical Studies, Mark Baker, won first place in the formal essay category for his essay in the Bryan College annual essay contest hosted by the English Department. The essay is entitled “Paul’s Development of the Metanarrative of the Temple and the Mission of the Church”.
Mr. Bruce Morgan attended the Leading The Way Forward conference held at Bryan June 5-8. This was a leadership development conference for urban America and was a collaborative effort between the V-TEAM Leadership network of America and the International Leadership Institute. Twenty-five urban ministry leaders, mostly from the southeast, but also from as far away as Denver, CO, were encouraged to pray for, equip, mentor, and network with other Christian leaders in strategic areas. One of the featured speakers was Bryan alumnus Dr. David Banks (’90).

- August 19 – Passing the Baton workshop for the faculty of Valley Christian Schools, San Jose, CA;

Dr. Ken Turner is presenting sessions at Summit (Bryan and Liberty) on genre hermeneutics and the reliability of the Bible.
Dr. Mel Wilhoit performed trumpet solos at the Gallery Hop in Danville, KY on June 13, during the 19th International Brass Band Festival. On June 20 he performed a trumpet solo and sang with the UTC Master Chorale in its summer concert held at First Centenary Methodist Church in Chattanooga, and on July 4 he played trumpet for the wedding of students John Gross and Amanda Couch in Maryland. Dr. Wilhoit also attended the annual meeting of Tennessee Association of Music Executives in Colleges and Universities (TAMECU) in Murfreesboro on June 25.
