Dr. Jud Davis’
articles “The Creator Clearly Seen” pp. 32-36 and “Wonder of God” p. 36, have been published in Answers in Genesis vol. 3 no. 3 (2008). Dr. Davis also preached at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton and Northshore Fellowship in Chattanooga in June, and he writes the Sunday school curriculum for Northshore Fellowship.

Dr. Doug Kennard presented two papers at the 2008 International Conference on Creationism in Pittsburgh, PA, August 3-6. One of these recently presented papers, “A Nuanced Lakatos Philosophy of Theology and Science,” was published in the peer reviewed Proceedings of the Sixth International Creation Conference: Technical Symposium Sessions (Pittsburgh: Creation Science Fellowship, 2008), pp. 31-42. Dr. Kennard’s other paper presented at the conference was also published as “Bio-Ethics from Image of God and Soul” in Proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on Creationism: Technical Symposium Sessions (Pittsburgh: Creation Science Fellowship, 2008), pp. 43-54.

Dr. David Luther presented a choral workshop in Charleston, SC, August 22-24, and East Ridge, TN, on September 6. He was a soloist in the July patriotic concert at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga.

Dr. Sigrid Luther attended the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Conference June 2-3, and the Dennis Alexander Piano Workshop in Chattanooga on August 21. She will be listed in the 2009 edition of Who’s Who in America, and has been invited to perform as guest left hand artist with Ingrid Clarfield at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Dallas, TX, October 22-25.

Dr. Ron Petitte was recognized and honored at a reception by The American Political Science Association (APSA) in Boston on August 29, 2008. This reception was for the purpose of honoring teachers of political science, politics and government. Dr. Petitte was also invited to visit the State Department Office to Monitor and Combat Human Trafficking on August 25, to meet the leadership in this fight.

Dr. Drew Randle was the commencement speaker at Curtis Baptist School’s graduation in Augusta, GA, in June. He and Dr. Scott Jones taught several Biblical Foundations sessions in June on Bryan’s campus for Grace Missionary Church’s youth group from Selina, OH. Dr. Randle also preached in the morning service at Grace Bible Church in Dayton in July.

Baraminology Study Group


Drs. Jud Davis, Doug Kennard, Roger Sanders, and Todd Wood, Miss Stephanie Mace, and student Zachary Williams all presented at the Baraminology Study Group conference in Pittsburgh, PA, August 6-8, as follows:

Dr. Jud Davis – presented the research abstract “Where is the Garden of Eden?”

Dr. Doug Kennard – presented two research abstracts: “the Hebraic Concept of Life and Death” and “The Oracle of the Curse at the Fall of Creation.”

Miss Stephanie Mace – presented the Creation Evolution Literature Database (CELD) as a research tool for the creationist community.

Dr. Roger Sanders – presented his research on “Lantana (Verbenaceae) as a Model to Study the Origin of Traits Exhibiting Natural Evil.”

Mr. Zachary Williams – presented his research “Preliminary Observations on the Feeding Habits of Green Hydra, Hydra viridissima, and Their Relation to Natural Evil.”

Dr. Todd Wood – moderated the annual BSG: A Creation Biology Study Group on August 7 and 8 in Pittsburgh, PA.



Congratulations to Mrs. Kim Keck on passing all sections of her qualifying exams in her doctoral program.

Dr. Jeff Myers had/will have the following schedule:
  • August 27-29 – Jeff and Danielle participated in a meeting of political and social leaders in Minneapolis, MN;
  • September 24-28 – will deliver the Passing the Baton workshop and other events in Warsaw, Poland;
  • September 29-October 1 – will work with SportQuest in Brussels, Belgium, to make arrangements for a nationwide Passing the Baton project; and
  • October 8-10 – will host a three-day Wisdom Trek leader development retreat at WinShape Conference Center in Rome, GA.

Dr. Roger Sanders and student Jeremy Blaschke co-authored an abstract and poster that Dr. Sanders presented at Botany 2008 (the annual American and Canadian botanical conference) held in Vancouver, British Columbia, July 26-31, 2008. Their research was “The origin and diversification of Scalesia (tree sunflowers) in the Galapagos Islands."

Dr. Ray Legg read a paper at the 32nd Annual Colloquium on Literature and Film at West Virginia University, September 12, 2008. The theme of the colloquium was Revisiting the Past in Contemporary LIterature and Film. The title of the paper was, "Revisiting the Past: Marginalization and Rejection in Two Versions of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston."

Mr. Luke Hathaway has been promoted from Helpdesk Technician to I.T. Services Computer Technician.

Dr. Bill Ketchersid has had an article with pictures published in the Tennessee Historical Quarterly (Summer 2008, Vol. LXVII, Number 2). The title of the article is “Major Campbell Wallace: Southern Railroad Leader.
This reflects some of the work Dr. Ketchersid did while he was on sabbatical last year.

Mr. Matt Meloncon (’08) accepted the position of I.T. Helpdesk Technician and began work October 13.

Dr. Dwight Page edited the November, 2008 issue of the Swiss-American Historical Review. This issue contains articles and book reviews dealing with the medieval Battle of Morgarten, James Joyce in Zurich, Lenin in Zurich, the Bergier Commission Report on the transactions between the Swiss Confederation and the Third Reich during World War II, and a fascinating history of the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, where Albert Einstein taught for many years. Dr. Page also represented Bryan College at the annual meeting of the Swiss-American Historical Society in Philadelphia on October 11th. In the future, the Swiss-American Historical Review will be published conjointly by Bryan College, the Swiss-American Historical Society and the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Christian Pendergrass accepted the position as General Grounds and Fleet Worker, effective October 16.

Mr. Earl Reed, Mr. James Sullivan and Mr. Luke Hathaway made presentations at the Appalachian College Association Summit XI in Abingdon, VA, October 16.
