BACKGROUND

William Jennings Bryan, though often considered a cultural enigma by historians today, was a man who believed passionately that the Christian faith must drive an individual’s values, which must in turn drive his or her lifestyle. Bryan College stands in the admirable tradition of its namesake as its faculty and staff seek to educate students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world.

MISSION/PURPOSE

The Center for Worldview Studies (CWS) seeks to promote thoughtful and relevant analysis and understanding of worldviews and their fundamental importance for culture and all of life.

ELABORATION OF PURPOSE

CWS, while itself committed to the Christian worldview, intends to pursue an understanding of other worldviews honestly and objectively so that there can be honest, open, and thoughtful debate about truth claims in each. CWS recognizes that worldviews are not just theoretical constructions but are embedded in cultures and ways of life, so there has to be careful consideration of the application of ideas to issues of culture such as social justice and the definition of humanness.

MEANS

Tools CWS will use to accomplish its purpose are the following:
  • Worldview Initiative, formerly known as Worldview Teams, that engages high school students, parents, teachers, and youth leaders through conferences, retreats, and chapels
  • Conferences, lectures, and forums on worldviews and related issues
  • Publications
  • Speakers who will address worldview ideas and cultural applications
